I’m not into superstitions, black cats and voodoo dolls like what Ricky Martin sings, but this weather keeps reminding me of the movie 2012.
Wary of the disaster Ondoy has brought to us, I’m always on a watch out for this kind of non-stop-torrential-rain weather.
Mandaue City Baranggays Declared Under State of Calamity
January 25, Tuesday, Cebu was caught by surprise when a heavy downpour occurred the entire day. The phenomenon was described by PAGASA as a “cloudburst”; rainwater collected in the clouds were poured in less than two hours in Lapu-lapu, Mandaue, and Cebu city. It went on and off the succeeding days until the time this post is published, mostly bringing in a large volume of water that flooded the streets of Cebu and Mandaue city.
Some of the baranggays in Mandaue city were declared under the state of calamity due to flash-floods. This has caused re-routing and a massive traffic road-jam as vehicles get caught in the deeper parts of the water. Passengers of V-hire going to Cebu City found themselves on their way back to where they came from as they can’t get through.
The floods are not to be blamed to the heavy rains only, but to clogged drains and poor drainage system.
Climate Change
We’ve been warned time and time again, and we know that what is happening can be mitigated. The temperature of the ocean is slowly rising, melting the ice caps on both poles. Because of the melted ice, sea levels are rising, and few more decades a lot of low-level islands would be lost to the sea.
We can help, YOU can help! Just by simple acts of mindfulness and responsibility will do:
- throw your trash in the trashcan and not anywhere else,
- reduce using, re-use, and or recycle plastics and other non-biodegradable materials,
- conserve energy, participate in activities like Earth Day and affiliate yourselves to environmentalist groups like Luntian Patrol.
Additionally, you may participate in my little poll at the right side. Humor also helps.
Anyhow, with these in mind, we can help prevent disasters and another Ondoy calamity to take place!

Pero Oo nga. Lagi na lang umuulan, parang walang katapusan.
nagtagalog sad ko.
seriously, i was surprise with the flood in Mandaue. Was suppose to go to SM but the Taxi Driver declined cause he said there’s flood in that area. I thought the weather was just bad, but seems like, it was worse then I thought.
Our Drainage system sucks. Even back there in Negros. I just hope weather will be better for the up and coming weeks.
