I was horrified to learn about this and I can not help but deviate from the theme of this blog.
A survey was done in 2009 that showed many workers of call centers engage in unprotected or unhealthy sexual activities, thus contracting or passing STDs. It found out that three out of four call center workers engage in premarital sex!
I work for a call center and I am sad to learn this. I do know that this practice is very common among my peers, and that there is really a risk in engaging in such activities. I also know from my friends in India that they too have the same problem in this industry.
Marife Zamora from Convergys begged to disagree with this contention. She said, in behalf of other call centers, that applicants undergo medical exams and they have annual physical exams that includes HIV testing. I wonder if they do go to STD Testing Centers as well?

People need to be more educated about health. We need to teach the people to be more health conscious and exercise more!

However, the study cautioned that “we cannot conclude that the higher prevalence of risk behaviors among call center workers can be attributed to work in the call center. There could be a selective bias, such as those who enter call center work already exhibit higher risky behavior.
