The one two three steps in applying in Convergys Cebu, or generally with any call center for that matter.

How to Apply

There are different ways to apply. There are

  1. Job fairs,
  2. Walk-in application,
  3. Referrals of current employees of the call center and lastly,
  4. Online submission of your résumé via email (shoot me an email lakbayphilippines at gmail dot com if you need the email address)

Call Center Experience: Convergys Cebu

Way back college, I really had this idea that Etelecare is better, bigger, more prominent than Convergys, and has the more Advanced Call Center Platform.

I applied in Etelecare first here in Cebu, passed the IQ test, and made it to the final interview. The interviewer was a schoolmate of mine, though we did not know each other until she saw my résumé. As overconfident as I am, I was talkative and assertive. I thought I had the interviewer, but no. I did not pass.

I was dismayed, and accepted the fact that I will apply for my second choice, Convergys. I was half-spirited in the exams, but was surprised that after three hours of a three-stage simulation exam, there were only two of us left.

For the final interview, I only responded to the interviewer’s questions as straight to the point as I can. The interviewer commented after she said congratulations, “you’re too quite boy, are you ready to share and speak in front of a class?” She did not have any idea I won an extemporaneous public speaking contest in front of hundreds of college students – and I was still in high school.

Call Center: Breeding Ground for STDs?

I was horrified to learn about this and I can not help but deviate from the theme of this blog.

A survey was done in 2009 that showed many workers of call centers engage in unprotected or unhealthy sexual activities, thus contracting or passing STDs. It found out that three out of four call center workers engage in premarital sex!

I work for a call center and I am sad to learn this. I do know that this practice is very common among my peers, and that there is really a risk in engaging in such activities. I also know from my friends in India that they too have the same problem in this industry.

Marife Zamora from Convergys begged to disagree with this contention. She said, in behalf of other call centers,  that applicants undergo medical exams and they have annual physical exams that includes HIV testing. I wonder if they do go to STD Testing Centers as well?
