We touched down in Cagayan de Oro, the City of Golden Friendship! on a fair day. The flight Cebu to CDO was more or less fifteen minutes, no kidding. I swear we could have just leveled off in the air after ascent and the pilot made it’s spiel that we’re 10,000 feet above sea-level and we’re on our final approach to Cagayan de Oro. I remember this because I was so eager to remove my seatbelt to pee. After peeing, I sat down and heard that spiel.
Where we Stayed
When me and my gang went to Cagayan de Oro for the White Water Rafting, we stayed at Wilshire Inn. It was surprisingly cheap; the room good for the four of us was less than Php 600. The amenities were cable tv, two beds, aircon, and bathroom.
The contact number of Wilshire Inn is:
Tadaaaa!!! My friend was lazy jotting down their number so she took a picture instead. Hahaha…
The accommodation was really good. I slept the moment I hit the bed.
Where We Bummed
Since Cagayan de Oro was our starting point for our 3-day Cagayan de Oro-Camiguin trip, we didn’t spend that much time roaming around.
We had dinner at Limketkai and it was like Ayala Cebu, so we didn’t have trouble making ourselves feel at home.
We also walked around Divisoria trying to feel what it is like in Cagayan de Oro at night. We finally settled in their plaza to drink a couple of beers and headed back to Willshire Inn.
When would be the best time to visit Cagayan de Oro? If you are after the white water rafting, the best time would be the rainy season. That would be around October to December. The water volume is higher, thus more challenging rapids.
If you go there in December and spend an adventurous Christmas, you can go over the mountain ranges between Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon. I wonder how you could compare it to China holidays?
If you’re after festivals, try to go there around the last week of August. They celebrate their Kagay-an festival, something similar to Kadayawan.
