As Philippines is an archipelago, traveling is a challenge. A solution delivered and implemented under the Arroyo administration is the Strong Republic Nautical Highway. It is comprised of roughly three routes: Western (click here to view), Central, and Eastern.
CENTRAL NAUTICAL HIGHWAY
Here is the list for the towns/cities/provinces that it hits:
- Riding on a bus, start point is Davao City, going up to
- Bukidnon via Buda, then
- Cagayan de Oro City (where you can experience white water rafting). The bus then gets on a Ro-Ro (Roll-on Roll-off) barge or boat going to
- Camiguin island, that serves as the link between Visayas and Mindanao;
- from Benoni, Camiguin the bus travels to
- Mambajao where the port to Bohol is, and rides another Ro-Ro.
- It disembarks in Jagna, Bohol and continues it travel to
- Tubigon, Bohol. There’s a proposed direct route from Jagna to Tubigon but I’m not sure if the bus goes this route; but for sure there are buses stationed/passes by at Jagna going to Tubigon.
- There’s an existing Tubigon to Cebu route already, either on a barge or a fastcraft;
- Then from Cebu City, it branches off. If you’re heading for western part of the Philippines (Negros, Murcia Mambukal hotsprings, Bacolod, Ilo-ilo, Capiz, Roxas City, Caticlan, Boracay, Mindoro) you go through the Toledo, Cebu – San Carlos City route.
- If you’re heading for Luzon via Eastern route, the bus goes to the tip of Cebu which is Bogo, and a Ro-Ro would take the bus to
- Masbate, then the bus travels to the port of
- Bicol, and in Bicol the bus travels upwards to the NCR.

I am from Bohol and I am working in Cebu so this sounds great to me.
So this Central Nautical Highway is not realized yet. Will they still push this once a new president has seated?
the land routes are existing, they just added the Ro-Ro. so now the land routes are getting connected via sea, making it look like a long highway that bridge the islands.

Btw, this is nice info sis. Pede na jud naa na way , like tracking from Manila to Bohol too… kaso it takes too long lang sakit daw sa lubot ingon akong mama nakatry sila sakay last year.
Thanks for the info. Please correct me if I’m wrong but I have doubts about the Eastern route to Luzon as mentioned above. I believe that from Cebu, vehicles are ferried to Leyte, not Masbate, then driven overland to the southern tip of Samar which is the town of Allen then ferried again to Luzon landing at Matnog, Sorsogon.
Thanks a lot for your comment! I really appreciate it. To be honest I haven’t verified the new route which involves Masbate; haven’t been there myself so I heavily relied on online resources. Around 2000 though, I was able to go through the route you’ve mentioned from Cebu to Sorsogon however, we stopped at Catbalogan, Samar not in Leyte and then from Catarman (or was it Allen? can’t remember) to Sorsogon.
There’s actually a new route that goes through Masbate, here’s a quote:
“The new Eastern seaboard route commence from Pilar, Sorsogon and runs through Masbate City and Esperanza town in Masbate, then traverses Naval and Maripipi towns both located in the province of Biliran to San Ricardo in Southern Leyte and finally ends in Lipata, Surigao City in Surigao del Norte.” – http://biliranisland.com/blogs/?p=856
